This week's whiff is iPhone 5 case Givenchy Gentlemen Only Intense ($74 with 50ml at Shoppers Drug Mart, Hudson's Bay and Sephora). Dork Lackie and I take a sniff.
It is one of the best men's scents I've smelled in the past 12 months. I immediately odour warm, woody notes which is random for a fragrance. These notes often appear in the base of a fragrance. I just detect a little pepper and a tad mandarin for freshness. A few minutes the initial spraying it, I smell buff leather and my favourite, vetiver. That is the woody notes that be noticeable for me. There is a great cedar mention blended with some amber and incense that makes this smell refined but expensive. Very well done. ★★★★ (out of 4)
Often , flanker monickers incorporate the word 'intense' as a way with reassuring the wearer of getting their money's worth, as in 'Don't worry buddy, she'll definitely be able to smell you across the dance floor. ' In the case of Gentlemen Only Intense I became worried that would amplify the everywhere tonka bean and make it no difference from the many other colognes out there. These people didn't. Instead, GOI ups finally, the ante on last year's new (well, itself a riff using Hubert de Givenchy iPhone cover's 1975 Gentleman). In fact it's the original character more pronounced – pungent but refined which has an amber silage mixing leather and cedar. The ebony pepper is a spicier tickle of the nose, too. An improvement on the original - and we can seldom say that with flankers. ★★★½
